Nakia Linzie-Shavers, LCSW and
Founder of Bright Moments Therapy

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW88491) in the State of California. I graduated from California State University, East Bay with a Master’s degree in Social Work and my Bachelor’s in Sociology with a minor in Recreation. My experience working in the healthcare industry spans over 15 years.

I was born and raised in Oakland, CA. I’m a mother to three wonderful adult sons. I enjoy football, music, family gatherings, and date nights. I have always had a strong desire to serve the community through education and understanding. This desire catapulted me to start private practice: Bright Moments Therapy which has been my most rewarding career choice.

My practice is open to various religions, gender identifications and sexual orientations. The beauty of practicing in the Bay Area is the richness of cultural values and experiences.

As a licensed therapist, my focus is you as an individual and how your experience impacts your ways of coping. The intent is to increase your quality of life, develop new skill sets to change unwanted behaviors, and relieve stressors.

My goal is to help you look at difficult situations with renewed optimism. Based on your values and desired goals, we will develop skills for improved inter-relations.

Have you experienced early-life trauma, feeling the weight of it in your metaphorical "backpack"? Are you searching for a way to release this burden? If you often contemplate life's injustices, questioning when the storm will pass, and find yourself operating in a way that leaves you unfulfilled and burnt out, I'm here to provide support. Untreated past trauma can impact overall health, and while I can't promise the storms will stop, I offer tools to help you navigate and overcome them.

My approach involves a nuanced understanding, recognizing the intersections shaping mental health journeys. As a therapist of color with a background in advocating for families in child welfare, my unique perspective allows me to meet clients where they are. Being a former foster youth has given me a unique lens and I can visualize all the moving pieces life can throw at you. I aim to support youth and young adults to attain healing by helping individuals manage stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma-related challenges. My hope is for you to feel seen, heard, and important in your healing process. I'm dedicated to helping you form genuine connections with yourself and others, I also offer guidance to couples and could help both of you prioritize each other's unique perspective. Exploring and Uncovering New Perspective

As Vivian Greene once said, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”

You can overcome difficult situations by manifesting a different perspective in life. We focus on you and what you need to get past grief, anxiety, or lack of motivation and into a growth phase through talk therapy. Our conversations will uncover the individual attributes that make you unique and will be used to explore the reasons behind your need for therapy and will inform strategies for recovery.

Getting Through Transitions to Reach a Better Place

The goal is to free yourself from limiting beliefs, recognize and change unhelpful behavior patterns and define and move in a more rewarding direction. We help you at specific points in your life when a change for the better or personal strength is needed through self-awareness techniques.

Values
that Guide my Therapy Practice

Spiritualism

Having a belief in a higher power can be a source of strength. Religion or a spiritual belief system can help overcome negative thoughts and experiences. By seeing yourself through different eyes, you can review situations and feelings more objectively, thereby leading to a new way of perceiving your feelings that's healthy for both your mind & body.

Prosperity

Everything that you are and have experienced creates abundance. It may not be apparent to you, but everything about you and that’s important to you makes life abundant. The key is to recognize where you are thriving. Prosperity is the path to further abundance.

Gratitude

When we explore what we are grateful for, it helps us return to ourselves. You have positively impacted others and vice versa. Gratitude is a motivator that keeps you moving forward in positivity and allows you to reach your goals.

Relationship

Human connection is life-giving. Positive relationships feed us in ways that we don’t even realize and give us the strength to follow our chosen path.
